When injected, semaglutide and tirzepatide act like a messenger protein called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). The similarity lets semaglutide or tirzepatide trigger GLP-1 receptors in your brain. They lock onto the same receptors as GLP-1 and mimic its signal, making them GLP-1 agonists. 

Tirzepatide also acts on GIP, another peptide that acts on similar systems, which is why it is referred to as a dual agonist. While this medication is newer than semaglutide, the combined effects may help people lose even more weight. 

These medications are given in different dosages, but the risks and side effects are typically the same. Some people may see more progress with one medication than the other, so we will work with you to find the best choice.
