What’s the Best Treatment to Improve My Skin Tone and Complexion?

| |

Melanin, the pigment that causes dark spots, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation, is essential for giving your hair and skin their color. However, sometimes, the melanin-producing cells in your skin produce too much of this pigment, leading to changes in your complexion. At Rejuve Med-Spa, we offer several treatments that excel at treating everything from mild to significant pigmentation problems.

What is Skin Rejuvenation for Hyperpigmentation?

When melanocytes (melanin-producing cells) make too much of their pigment in one area, you will see a darker spot or change in skin tone. Skin rejuvenation treatments address this hyperpigmentation in several ways. While some remove the hyperpigmented layers of skin, others target the melanin-containing cells specifically.

What’s the Best Treatment to Improve My Skin Tone and Complexion?

The best skin rejuvenation treatment for you depends on several factors, including:

  • The cause and severity of your hyperpigmentation
  • How much downtime you can put up with
  • Other concerns you want to treat
  • Your skin type and tone

HydraFacial®

The HydraFacial® has become an essential part of many people’s skincare routines. Gentle enough for anyone’s skin, this treatment provides an immediate healthy glow. More important, a series of treatments will fade mild to moderate sun damage and hyperpigmentation.

This treatment requires no downtime and leaves your skin feeling refreshed, but requires more treatments to see results. It is ideal for those seeking a skin-purifying, hydrating treatment customized to their needs.

IPL Photofacial

This skin rejuvenation treatment targets both brown-toned and red-toned pigmentation problems using pulses of broadband light. Along with dark spots and hyperpigmentation, an IPL photofacial can fade rosacea, broken blood vessels, and other skin concerns like enlarged pores and dullness.

While there is no downtime with this treatment, you may have some redness for up to a day. It will also make your skin very sun-sensitive, so you will need to avoid excessive exposure. This treatment is suitable for people with skin tones in the Fitzpatrick 1-3 range.

Enlighten™ RX Peel

This combination of in-office and at-home peel is one of our most popular and effective treatments for pigmentation issues. It also provides smoother, firmer-looking skin with a healthy glow. The Enlighten™ RX Peel blocks melanin production, making it harder for dark spots to reappear as you eliminate them.

You can expect two to four days of downtime after a typical in-office treatment, and you will continue to apply the at-home treatments for 28 days. You will have a second treatment two weeks after the first one.

How to Make Skin Rejuvenation Treatments Last

Once you get rid of hyperpigmentation and achieve an even skin tone, you can take several steps to keep your skin clear. The easiest and most important is wearing sunscreen every day and reapplying as instructed.

Other ways to maintain your results include using medical-grade skincare products and having an occasional touch-up session. For a HydraFacial®, this can be every four to six weeks, while for other methods may need one or to maintenance treatments a year.
