How Long Will Kybella® Last?

What is Kybella®?

The FDA has approved Kybella® as the first injectable treatment to address submental fat. Before Kybella®, removing the appearance of a double chin often involved liposuction or a procedure like a neck lift. Kybella® only requires a series of injections with none of the recovery or discomfort associated with more invasive procedures. 

How Does Kybella® Work?

Kybella® uses a molecule called deoxycholic acid. It acts in your digestive system to break up and dissolve fat from your food. When injected into the double chin area, it works on this fat in a similar way, breaking down the cell membranes of the fat cells. The body will remove these damaged fat cells over a few weeks. 

How Long Will Kybella® Last?

Our body does not grow new fat cells, so the fat cells removed with Kybella® do not come back. The fat cells still in the area can enlarge and make the area look fuller again, so to keep your results looking optimal, we recommend maintaining a consistent weight and healthy lifestyle. You should not need any follow-up treatments after your first round of Kybella® sessions. 

What Results Will I See With Kybella®?

Most people will start to see results within two to four treatments, although some may need up to six. We will space these about a month apart. Results from Kybella® develop over time as the body’s lymphatic system removes the damaged fat cells. 

Within a few weeks, you will begin to see your submental fat decrease. Your jawline and chin will reveal improved contours, and your neck will look slimmer and tighter. Most people see a significant improvement in their double chin with Kybella® without requiring any surgical procedures or downtime. 

Is There any Downtime With Kybella®?

You can go back to your regular routine after Kybella® treatment. The most common side effect is swelling, which is worst for the first 48 hours but can last several weeks. You may notice some soreness or bruising in the treated area, but this will improve within a few days. 

Am I a Candidate for Kybella®?

Most people make good candidates for Kybella®. If you have a double chin and want to remove it without liposuction or surgery, Kybella® offers a less invasive option. You should not use Kybella® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and people with medical problems including bleeding, clotting, or unusual scar formation should consult with a Rejuve Med-Spa expert.
