What is a Chemical or Facial Peel?

Chemical peels are a form of chemical exfoliation. They work by using acids such as glycolic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids to loosen and sweep away the outer layers of dead and damaged cells that accumulate on the surface of the skin. Peels also include other active compounds that address specific concerns, such as hyperpigmentation or signs of aging.

How Long Do Chemical Peel Results Last?

How long your chemical peel results will last depends on several factors. Your chemical peel expert will discuss which type of peel may fit your schedule and lifestyle

The Type of Peel

Light or superficial peels treat the outermost layers of the skin and have little to no downtime. Most people will benefit from these peels once a month to maintain their smoothness and glow. More intensive peels may result in some redness and peeling for a few days, and they are usually repeated once or a few times a year

The Issues Treated

Different types of skin concerns will reappear on different schedules. Some, like acne scars, will not return unless you continue to have acne. Others, such as enlarged pores or dullness, will benefit from regular sessions to maintain them. Your provider can give you more insight based on your unique skin needs.

Environmental Factors

Exessive sun exposure is the biggest environmental factor in how long your peel results last. Hyperpigmentation problems and signs of aging will take much longer to reappear if you wear sunscreen consistently and follow other good skincare practices.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Because we offer so many medical-grade peels, we have one suitable for nearly anyone. Unlike many lasers, chemical peels can safely treat the full range of skin tones, and we have options suitable for any skin type. Good candidates have realistic expectations and healthy skin in the treatment area. Certain medical or skin conditions may affect whether a chemical peel is right for you.
