Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Have Side Effects?
Your skin faces many daily challenges that can leave its mark in the form of dullness, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation. Laser skin resurfacing targets pigmentation and rejuvenates your skin. While safe and effective in the right hands, laser skin resurfacing can have some side effects, especially if administered by an inexperienced provider.
What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing uses light energy to trigger skin renewal. This treatment targets issues like hyperpigmentation, age spots, and broken blood vessels to give you clear, even skin. It also brings healthy new skin cells to the surface for smoother skin, tighter pores, and less noticeable fine lines. It offers an effective way to address many signs of aging.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
Your Rejuve Med Spa team offers two forms of laser skin resurfacing. Both target signs of aging but have differences that will help your provider choose the best one for you.
Pixel
Pixel is a fractional laser, which means it makes thousands of micro-channels in the skin. These channels trigger healing, generating new collagen and bringing clear, healthy skin cells to the surface. Pixel works at a shallower depth than treatments like microneedling for less downtime and fewer risks of side effects.
Photo Facial
A Photo Facial uses advanced fluorescence to target pigmentation issues. It uses pulses of low-energy broadband light that do not penetrate the skin. Pigment molecules absorb this energy, causing them to be shed from the skin or removed from the body.

Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Have Side Effects?
While laser skin resurfacing is safe and effective, all procedures have some risks. Most people will experience few, if any, side effects. Your experienced Rejuve Med Spa providers know how to use these powerful treatments safely. Side effects are far more common with inexperienced or unskilled providers and may include:
- Pigmentation changes, especially when used on inappropriate skin tones
- Redness and swelling that usually fade within a few days
- Acne breakouts in people prone to acne
- Flare-ups of skin conditions such as herpes
Your provider can take several steps to limit your risk of side effects. These steps include carefully screening candidates and choosing the right treatment for your needs. Preventative treatment can decrease your risk of herpes flares and other skin issues. We will also recommend steps for you to take before treatment, such as avoiding sun exposure, to help limit your risk.
What Results Will I See With Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Most people need a series of laser skin resurfacing treatments to achieve their desired results. We will customize your treatment plan based on your goals. Each treatment will reduce hyperpigmentation, the appearance of fine lines, and other signs of aging. Many people benefit from touch-up treatments every six months to a year to maintain smooth, even-toned skin.
