Preparation Tips Before Laser Hair Removal

Removing unwanted facial and body hair is an unending chore that eats up time and money. Fortunately, you can free yourself from this time-wasting task with laser hair removal. This treatment stops hair growth in treated areas, leaving you with smooth, soft skin and no worries about stray hairs or forgetting to shave.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The secret to laser hair removal is a pigment called melanin that gives hair and skin their color. Each hair grows from a root located inside a hair follicle, which is lined with living cells that cause the hair to grow. Laser hair removal targets the melanin in the hair root, heating it enough to damage the follicles. The hairs from these follicles are shed and will not regrow. At Rejuve Med Spa, the official laser hair removal provider for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, we are experts in maximum results.

Preparation Tips Before Laser Hair Removal

Understanding how laser hair removal works will help you understand why preparing for treatment is important for your best results. Following these tips will maximize hair removal and minimize the risk of overheating your skin.

Avoid Waxing, Threading, and Tweezing

Our pain-free laser cannot treat follicles without a hair root. Since waxing and many other methods pull out the root, there will be nothing for the laser to act on, making treatment less effective. You can still remove hair by shaving.

Avoid Bleaching Hair in Treatment Areas

Bleaching your hair removes the pigment, and a hair root with no pigment is almost invisible to the hair removal laser. Allow the naturally colored roots to grow back for at least four weeks prior to your session.

Limit Sun Exposure

While laser hair removal is very safe, there are risks associated with using it on naturally or artificially tanned skin. Do not tan, use self-tanners, or spend time exposed to the sun in the weeks before treatment or between treatments.

Shave Before Your Session

We recommend shaving your hair within about 24 hours of your treatment session. The laser could produce too much heat on skin with longer hairs. Arrive with clean, product-free skin for your session.

Only Treat Healthy Skin

Let your Rejuve Med Spa provider know beforehand if you have an infection, injury, or active skin condition in the treatment area. They may recommend rescheduling your session to protect your skin and ensure better results.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments needed will depend on many factors. Each hair follicle has a cycle of activity, spending some of its time growing hair and some resting. How fast this cycle happens depends on the person and area of the body. During each treatment, only the active follicles are affected. The average number of treatments needed is five to seven, although results will differ.
