How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® injections are incredibly popular for anyone that wishes to reduce the signs of aging. These injections are proven to help decrease the appearance of fine lines and smooth out wrinkles. Contrary to what you may think, one Botox® treatment isn’t enough to see long-lasting results. Most people will undergo a series of treatments spaced out over a few months. This is because the results of Botox® injections typically last between 3-4 months. 

Botox® Overview

Botox® is an FDA-approved injectable that can provide improvements in frown line and wrinkle appearance. It is a brand name for the neurotoxins onabotulinumtoxinA, which works by blocking signals in your face. Essentially, Botox® will stop the brain from receiving signals from nerves within your facial muscles. When an area has been injected, it loses the ability to rapidly contract and twitch. It is movements like this that cause wrinkles as your skin almost folds up and moves. 

The best example of this is frowning; the muscles that help you frown will cause big wrinkles in your forehead. With a Botox® injection in these muscles, the nerve signals are blocked, so they don’t contract. The result is much smoother skin and a younger appearance! 

How Long Will My Botox® Results Last?

The exact length of time will vary slightly from person to person. However, the average duration is between 3-4 months. Some individuals will see results lasting up to 5-6 months, while others might only have them for 2 months. It depends on how your body reacts to the treatment, but the more often you get Botox®, the longer the results last. So, if they only last 3 months after your first session, they could last up to 6 months after your third session.

Am I a Candidate for Botox®?

This treatment is suitable for the majority of people with facial wrinkles and fine lines. It’s particularly effective at treating forehead linked, crows feet, or brow furrows. Provided you are healthy, you will be a good candidate for Botox® if you’d like to look younger. These injections are also excellent if you want cosmetic treatment but don’t want any surgery. 

The only people this treatment isn’t suitable for is anyone with skin infections or muscle/nerve conditions. We also don’t recommend it for pregnant women or women who are currently breastfeeding.
