Can a Chemical Peel Help with Acne Scars?
Acne scarring is one of the conditions most over-the-counter treatments cannot successfully reduce or repair. But you don’t have to just live with acne scarring. Rejuve Med-Spa’s dedicated and experienced staff can help reduce acne scarring for a renewed, supple soft complexion.
How Do Chemical Peels Treat Acne Scars?
Exfoliation is the key to the effectiveness of chemical peels to treat acne scars. By removing the topmost layer of skin, new skin cells are generated, usually smoother and less scared than the previous scar tissue. As an acid solution, chemical peels sound scary, but they’re really not. The chemical exfoliation happens at the cellular level, creating a controlled injury to stimulate the body’s healing process to repair acne scarring, sun damage, and wrinkles. Chemical peels also unclog pores, improve the texture and tone of the skin, and remove hyperpigmentation or darkening caused by acne breakouts.
Rejuve Med-Spa’s medical-grade chemical peels include SkinMedica’s® Illuminize, Vitalize, and Rejuvenize Peels, as well as the RevePeel and the Enlighten MD Peel. These peels provide a wealth of choice in peel depth to treat many skin concerns. The Illuminize Peel is a gentle surface peel with minimal irritation and no peeling, while Vitalize goes a little deeper for anti-aging improvements. The RevePeel is also a medium-depth peel to correct hyperpigmentation, melasma, fine lines, acne scars, and age spots. The Rejuvenize Peel goes deeper to address moderate to severe skin imperfections with a 3-4 day peeling phase. The Enlighten MD Peel is designed to fight hyperpigmentation and melasma with a 28-day program designed to reduce pigment and improve your overall complexion.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Chemical peels are so versatile in their ingredients, their targeted conditions, and their improvement specifications that nearly anyone can find a peel suited for them. A Rejuve Med-Spa skin care specialist can help you determine your best chemical peel during your comprehensive consultation.
When Will I See Results?
Your chemical peel session lasts approximately an hour, and for most patients, signs of immediate improvement are visible. Once healing has begun, results depend on a few different factors, such as the peel depth, your unique healing abilities, and how much damage you’re attempting to correct. Repeat chemical peels may be required to achieve your desired results, scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.
Superficial peels may leave your skin feeling dry for a day, while medium-depth peels may result in peeling and blistering for 2-3 days after your session. Deeper peels may take as long as 10 days of recover. Results are fully realized after the healing phase is complete, including diminished lines and wrinkles, acne scarring reduction, lightened pigmentation caused by breakouts, reduced melasma, and overall clarity improvement to your complexion.
